Unit 12 - Data Visualization

Data visualization is the presentation of data in a pictorial or graphical format. It enables users to see analytics presented visually. With interactive visualization, you can use technology that offers more detail with charts and graphs. Which allows users to identify areas that need attention or improvement.

Data Visualization Tools

Below is an update on the status of my data collection project. Currently, I'm still in the beginning stage of canvassing Old Town Alexandria VA for historical buildings. With the aid of a Google search, I have been able to locate several historical buildings. In addition, I have created an Omeka account to begin uploading photos. Lastly, I designed the page to be visually appealing and easy to navigate. In the upcoming days, I plan to visit my local library for information about each building and hopefully they will have images that I can scan onto my data collection.

    Good first draft of the Omeka site. You might consider changing the color scheme, but keep experimenting. It is a good idea to have a featured item. You'll also want to add to your title, home page description.

The Smithsonian African American museum opened its doors on September 24, 2016. It is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture. The museum has state of the art exhibits to display its collection of more than 36,000 artifacts. Locals in the District-Maryland-Virginia area and tourist have made getting a ticket to visit the museum a hot commodity. Tickets are free and available to the public on the Smithsonian website. Visitors with normal entry pass are not permitted to take pictures or videos of the museum’s exhibitions. They must complete a media request to obtain permission for non-commercial photography or filmmaking. The Smithsonian museum collection is also available online.
