Internet users are social and they use various media platforms to give input about many subjects. Individuals are able to obtain information about a task or project by enlisting the services of a large number of people, either paid or unpaid. Crowd sourcing is powered by new technologies, social media and web 2.0. The growing connectivity makes it possible for individuals to collectively contribute to a project or cause.  The subject matter for the crowd sourcing can vary from health,  politic, travel and numerous other subject matter.  Crowd sourcing is a tool marketers or start up businesses use to generate funds or service. Data visualization is the presentation of data in a pictorial or graphical format. It enables users to see analytics presented visually. With interactive visualization, you can use technology that offers more detail with charts and graphs. Which allows users to identify areas that need attention or improvement. Data Visualization Tools Below is an update on the status of my data collection project . Currently, I'm still in the beginning stage of canvassing Old Town Alexandria VA for historical buildings. With the aid of a Google search, I have been able to locate several historical buildings. In addition, I have created an Omeka account to begin uploading photos. Lastly, I designed the page to be visually appealing and easy to navigate. A digital archive catalogs information and material about a specific topic, geographical location and so forth.  They also preserve materials that are intangible; which will never decay or suffer wear and tear unlike those materials stored in physical library structures. The real versus unreal plays a major role in today’s historical experience. Historical accounts have been greatly impacted by the development of new virtual study and recreation techniques. However, there are pros and cons of handling historical objects physically and virtually. These pros and cons consist of historical knowledge of an object, the time needed to study objects and the sensory interaction with these objects.  The advancement of Technology has created many possibilities that weren't available in the past.  Today's devices allow historians to restore and perform tasks on objects that might have previously been very time consuming physically. My digital history project will involve creating a website via Pinterest or a web creation tool that will compare storing historical content on the internet versus in a museum. I will analyze how they both obtain their content and discuss in detail the steps taken to gain permission to display the objects. I will also describe the punishment for displaying content on the internet without the permission of the museum. The website will give a timeline of museums and history websites so we can predict their trending direction. A section dedicated to the first museum will give users an understanding of its creation and some of the challenges it faced such as advertising and obtaining objects. There will be links provided to several museums that allow their content to be displayed on the internet. The Smithsonian African American museum opened its doors on September 24, 2016. It is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture. The museum has state of the art exhibits to display its collection of more than 36,000 artifacts. Locals in the District-Maryland-Virginia area and tourist have made getting a ticket to visit the museum a hot commodity. Tickets are free and available to the public on the Smithsonian website. Visitors with normal entry pass are not permitted to take pictures or videos of the museum’s exhibitions.
