Unit 13 - Crowd sourcing
Internet users are social and they use various media platforms to give input about many subjects. Individuals are able to obtain information about a task or project by enlisting the services of a large number of people, either paid or unpaid. Crowd sourcing is powered by new technologies, social media and web 2.0. The growing connectivity makes it possible for individuals to collectively contribute to a project or cause. The subject matter for the crowd sourcing can vary from health, politic, travel and numerous other subject matter. Crowd sourcing is a tool marketers or start up businesses use to generate funds or service. All of the above mentioned are examples of how the internet is changing the life's of its users.
Waze is one of the most successful crowd powered start ups. It's an app that allows users to report traffic jams and automatically gives directions for the best route to take. It crowd sources information by measuring drivers speed to determine traffic jams and by asking users to report road closures.
Crowd funding is a form of crowd sourcing and alternative finance.
Kickstarter is the world's largest funding platform for creative projects.

The three URL sites in your list, while them mention crowd-sourcing, are not really examples of crowd-sourcing at work. Waze and Kickstarter are, but they are not history focused, and we are working as historians in the course. Is crowd-sourcing appropriate for a history project? and what kind of history project?
